今日は我が家の録音機材を紹介しつつ、ちょっと前に作曲して録音した音源を貼ってみたいと思います。多くの曲は
ギターを弾きながら主旋律が浮かんできた時に、その他のパートの演奏もイメージします。たまにキーボードでそのような作業をする事もありますが、キーボードはあまり上手くないので主に音色によってインスピレーションを得る事が多いです。ギターの6本の弦は音の隔たり方に（手によって押さえる事ができる範囲）に限界があるので、いわゆる「手癖」が出やすいです。その観点から「キーボードのほうがバラエティに富んだ曲作りができるんだろうなぁ」と思いつつ（練習が嫌いなので）「手癖に独特の味があるんだ！」と自分で言い訳をしてみたりする。で、リッチーブラックモア先生のインタビューでも同じ事を言っておられましたが、ここから大嫌いな道のりが始まります。大体の曲の感じができたら各
楽器のアレンジを明確にする為にラフな録音をしたり、そうでない時は譜面に起こしたりします。その後、まずはドラムです。ドラムは普段ドラムマシン(ZOOM)を使います。
音符でドラムを打ち込むのは地味で時として曲のフィーリングを失ってしまうので、リアルタイムで打ち込みます。ドラムはキーボードと同期するようにMIDIで接続してキーボードのシーケンサーによって発音させます。これが完成したら、次は必要なキーボード(KORG)を打ち込みます。
これでキーボードとドラムが一緒に音を出す事ができます。ドラムマシンは4つのアウトプットをフルに使って、1トラックにバスドラム、2トラックにスネアドラム、3トラックと4トラックにタムとシンバルを左右（ステレオ）に振り分けた状態でミキサーに送ります。キーボードも4つのアウトプットがありますがこれは曲によって使い方を分けます。これで、1から8トラックを使ってドラムとキーボードをMTR（曲によって使うMTRを選びます）に録音します。ここまでが非常に退屈で根気の要る作業です。次は9トラック目にベースギターの録音です。ここからは大好きな弦楽器の演奏であり、曲の完成が見え始めるので楽しくなってきます。本当にごく最近までベースは鳴っていれば良いと思っていましたが、ベースギターの音作りは本当に大変で、最終的な曲の仕上がりに影響します。最近は試行錯誤しながらドラムとの一体感と迫力と「ベースとなる」音がきちんと伝わる事に注意して音を決めます。弦楽器の録音はとにかく録音時に良い音を拾っておかないと仕上がりに大きく影響します。後で加工できるのは本当に必要な音質の調整とエフェクトだけなので、録音には本当に注意が必要です。（どなたかベースギターを綺麗に録音する「コツ」を教えて下さい）そしてやっとギターです。
ギターはやっぱりマイクを使って録音しましょう。小さなアンプでも小さな音量でも良いのです。
気に入った音が出るようにセッティングしたアンプの前にマイクを立ててちょっとだけ録音してみます。マイクの本数、タイプ（ダイナミックまたはコンデンサ）、マイクを立てる位置や角度で、録音できる音がものすごく変わってきます。この場合高価なマイクが良いとは限らない事にも最近気付きました。癖を持っている安いマイクがギターを録った時に凄く良い音になる事も多々あります。高級品ではなくてもマイクプリアンプがあれば音決めが「それっぽく」決まりやすいです。
また、ノイズが気になる時は、ノイズゲートとコンプレッサーが一体になったエフェクターをインサートしておくと便利です。この行程では何度も試す事が重要ですが、時々客観的に捉えるよう心掛けないときりが無くなってしまって、「どれも良い」または「どれも悪い」と感じてしまいます。このような時には
ビールを飲んで寝ましょう。・・・・・で、時間をおいて再びチャレンジです。（ギターを録音する前にこんな音で録りたいという音をイメージしておく事が重要です。）で、10トラック目にギター（ステレオの場合は11トラックも使う）の録音が完了します。バッキングとソロを分けて録音する場合は同じ要領でソロの録音をします。そして仮の歌を録ってコーラス、コーラスの録音が終わってから歌の本番を録ります。音源としては16トラックで十分です。
全部の音を録り終えたら、ミックスですが、この際にミキサーのエフェクトループで空間系のエフェクトをかけます。全体のバランスをとりながらミックスのレベルを設定しますが、この時に「買ってきたCDみたいな迫力がでない」という事が多々あります。この時に使うのがファイナライザというマスタリング用のエフェクターです。
生で録音した音には音楽ソースとして不要な音も含まれており、その不要な音情報も電気的には「情報量」としてとらえられてしまい、音楽としておいしい情報を圧迫してしまう事で、迫力の無い現象が起きてしまうようです。ここまで自分の経験を確認しつつ書いてみましたが、録音するたびに「今回がベスト」と思っていても時間が経つともっと良いものができるんじゃないかと思ってしまいます。今回、貼った音はとてもシンプルな機材で録った音です。今となっては録音や演奏に不満だらけですが、本人としては感慨のあるテイクなのです。満足しない事が成長に繋がる事を信じつつ・・・。今回貼った音源は様式美的な
アルペジオのギターソロが印象的な（自分で言うな！）へヴィーメタルの楽曲です。大きな音で聴いて下さい。（まわりの迷惑にならない程度に。）
I want to introduce my recording equipment and basic method today, and I put my old music.
When I got theme while playing the guitar, as for much music, I image the performances of other part. I can sometimes carry out such an activity with a keyboard, but tend to get inspiration by a tone of the keyboard, because I'm not good keyboard player. Because the range (that I can suppress by a hand) has a limit, as for six strings of the guitar, so-called "manual habit" is easy to appear in the difference of the sound. The keyboard has full of variety from the point of view. There is "unique feeling in manual habit" because I dislike exercises, I understand by oneself. A difficult process begins from here. Ritchie Blackmore said same things. I do rough recording to make the arrangement of each musical instrument clear if I can feel like the rough music, or write a sheet of music when I am not so. Then I start work with Drum part. Normally I uses Drum machine which made by ZOOM / RT-323. Because I don't hope to lose
Rock feeling, I select "real time recording". Drum machine was setup to make sounds by sequencer signal of the KORG keyboard. After I finished Drum part, I play KORG /TRINITY (or 01WFD) keyboard. Drum and keyboard are play the music at same period by sequencer. I connected Bass Drum to Truck 1 of the mixer. Also connected Snare Drum to Truck 2. Then I uses Truck 3 and 4 for the stereo sound of Cymbals and Tom. Also keybord has 4 outputs. I have to select "output sound" depends on the music for 5 to 8 truck. The above is very boring, and it is necessary work of the perseverance. I play bass guitar and record it to Truck 9. Because I play guitar and bass, I can enjoy to work from this process. Also I can feel final sound from this process step by step. I thought it till now that if I can listen bass sound it's OK. But it was wrong. The sound-making of the bass guitar is not easy, and bass sound give a big influence to the music itself. I do "trial and error" at present to make good sound to the music, and I try to make "a sense of unity" with drum. Also I try to make a attack (power) to the music. Bass is the basic sound on the band. We should record them by good sound, you know. We should not adjust sound color after the recording. (We don't need to adjust sound character if recorded sound was great.) If really needed, we have to adjust sound character after the recording, by the way. (Add effect and/or add equalizer as example.)
Anyway, I learned that I should do it very carefully. (Hey someone can advise me critical point to do good job for the bass guitar, please.) Next step is Guitar. I want to record Guitar sound by microphone. Small volume and small amplifier is OK, if created sound are good. (If you can make loud sound, it's more better to keep Rock feeling.)
I do setup microphone at front of the amplifier, after I adjust amplifier to make good sound. Then I play guitar for a short time for "test record". Sound of the guitar will be change dramatically when I change position (and angle, type of the microphone, QTY ) of the microphone. We should not think that expensive microphone could be able to pick-up good sound. Cheap microphone has funny character, and sometimes it will catch good sound for the guitar. If you have "mic pre-amp", you will be easy to create professional sound. If my guitar system had noise, I should insert Comp/Gate to the loop of the mixer. I should do "trial and error" may time on this process. But I should check sound of them from an objective point of view. Otherwise, it will be endless. (I will think all of them are good. Or I will think all of them are bad. I have to choice only one good sound as you know.) When I fall in the chaos, I should drink beer and go to bed. After that, I should do it again, then. ( I should have image of the sound before I do it.) I use Track 10 (or 10 and 11 for stereo sound) for the guitar. If I play backing guitar and solo guitar separately, I have to do same thing again for additional truck. After that I will try to record for temporary vocal. This is preparation to record voice chorus. Then I try to record chorus part. After that, vocal will be recorded. Normally, I use around 16 truck as total and it's enough. After I finished to record all of the part, I have to do mix-down (truck-down). I use effect loop of the Mixer to add ambient effects. I do check total balance and I adjust sound level. Sometimes I feel that there is no attack something like purchased CD. I use effector of mastering which called finalizer, when I felt poor sound. A meaningless sound is included in a music source. The meaningless sound has value from electrical view point, and these meaningless sound compressed to true music source. We feel no-attack sound by this reason. I wrote this until now, based on my experience. I always feel that latest recorded music are the best. but after several days I feel I can do more excellent job more than it. I put music this time which I composed (and recorded) several years ago. I used very simple equipments at that time. I have frustration to the recording and playing to the music because it's old. But it is a record with the deep emotion for me. Discontent is probably vitality to the next step, that I believe. Attached music is a heavy metal song which includes first classical arpeggio.
